As a man who has navigated the harsh realities of poverty growing up, I understand the weight of uncertainty that comes with it. My journey has been marked by struggles and challenges that often felt insurmountable. I grew up in an environment in Chicago where stability was a luxury I could not afford, where the threat of homelessness loomed large and hope often felt like a distant dream. These experiences shaped my perspective and instilled in me a profound empathy for those who find themselves in similar circumstances.

One day, while volunteering at a local shelter, I encountered a group of foster youth who were transitioning out of the system. Their stories struck a chord within me, echoing my own feelings of displacement and vulnerability. I saw in their eyes the same longing for safety and belonging that I had once felt. These young individuals were about to step into a world that could be overwhelming and unforgiving, lacking the support and resources necessary to navigate their new reality.

At that moment, I was inspired to act. I realized that I could turn my own experiences into a source of strength and create something meaningful for those who needed it most. I decided to open a Transitional Housing Placement Program (THPP) dedicated to foster youth, providing them with a safe haven and the guidance they deserve.

My vision for this program is rooted in the belief that every young person deserves a chance to thrive. I want to create an environment where they can heal from past traumas, learn essential life skills, and build a strong foundation for their futures. I aim to offer not just shelter but also support—mentorship, education, and a sense of community that fosters growth and resilience.

While the road to establishing the THPP has not been easy, each challenge has only reinforced my commitment to this cause. I have sought out partnerships with local organizations, gathered resources, and connected with individuals who share my passion for helping others. Every step I take is guided by the desire to empower these young people, to show them that they are not alone and that their circumstances do not define their potential.

As I watch the youth in the program begin to flourish, I am reminded of the strength that lies within each of us. Together, we can create a space where dreams are nurtured, where hope is cultivated, and where every young person has the opportunity to build a brighter future. My journey from poverty to purpose has taught me that change is possible, and it starts with compassion, determination, and the belief that we can make a difference, one life at a time.
